Chimoré/Juan Pedro Debreczeni, CORREO DEL SUR
Trabajar en la lucha contra el narcotráfico es una labor loable y arriesgada, y participar como corresponsal de prensa en un operativo, también conlleva los mismos peligros. Por eso, a lo largo de siete arduas jornadas, el Centro de Entrenamiento Internacional Antinarcóticos “Garras del Valor” preparó física y mentalmente a 17 periodistas de diferentes puntos del país que ahora podrán acompañar las tareas de interdicción.
Fue la segunda versión del curso dirigido a periodistas y comunicadores sociales en uno de los centros de capacitación antidroga más importantes y destacados del ámbito internacional.
SOBRE EL CENTRO
Con más de 20 años de trayectoria y enseñanza de alto nivel, el Centro de Entrenamiento Internacional Antinarcóticos “Garras del Valor” (CEIAGAVA) ratificó, una vez más, su reputación de impartir cursos cargados de disciplina, sacrificio y rigor.
Desde 1987, el CEIAGAVA ha formado a fuerzas especiales tanto de Bolivia como de Panamá, Ecuador, Guatemala, Perú y Colombia, entre otros países.
Cualquier efectivo que haya logrado superar el “Curso Garras” puede preciarse de formar parte de un selecto grupo de hombres y mujeres con el perfil suficiente para constituirse en la elite de la Policía Nacional.
BITÁCORA
Luego de un viaje de más de cuatro horas desde la ciudad de Cochabamba, llegamos a la localidad de Chimoré, en la región del Chapare, donde se encuentra el centro de adiestramiento.
Una vez que el bus “Garras” ingresó a las instalaciones, los 17 periodistas formamos en el patio de honor y empezamos a conocernos. En ese momento, todos estábamos todavía relajados; lo mismo ocurrió durante la cena, aunque los instructores ya habían anunciado que al día siguiente “todo iba a cambiar” con el inicio de la instrucción. Adelantaron que todos debían estar listos para trabajo físico a las cinco de la mañana; muchos no lo creyeron en ese momento, pero esa fue la rutina de todos los días.
Esa madrugada, los músculos atrofiados de los alumnos empezaron a estirarse y trabajar después de mucho tiempo, las siguientes jornadas devino la dolorosa macurca y al final del curso que se caracterizó por el constante ejercicio, todos estaban en forma y bien acondicionados.
Nos acostumbramos a transpirar todo el tiempo y reponer los líquidos siempre con agua. “Si tiene hambre, tome agua; si tiene sueño, tome agua; si siente dolor, tome agua; si quiere gritar, tome agua…”, nos repetían.
LA INSTRUCCIÓN
Un “Curso Garras” normal, dirigido a oficiales tiene una duración de 3 meses de lunes a lunes, mientras que el destinado a corresponsales se sintetiza en 7 días que reúnen los aspectos más importantes de la instrucción habitual.
El programa de formación incluyó el desarrollo de tácticas de navegación terrestre con el empleo de equipos GPS, manejo de armas (fusil M-16), técnicas de supervivencia en la jungla para su aplicación en situaciones de campaña, primeros auxilios en situaciones de emergencia, supervivencia en agua y rescate acuático, deslizamiento con sogas (rapel), operaciones ribereñas con botes Zodiac y lanchas Piraña, entre otras habilidades que el alumno debía adquirir.
El objetivo de capacitar a los periodistas en todas estas áreas es el de acompañar a un equipo armado (patrulla) en operativos de interdicción al narcotráfico, de tal forma que el corresponsal sea un miembro más de la patrulla y responda de manera adecuada ante cualquier situación que se presente.
“Aquí todo puede pasar”, era la constante advertencia para que los alumnos nos mantengamos alertas; incluso en la noche, en las barracas (dormitorios con literas), donde “no se duerme, se descansa…”
Cada uno de los módulos de instrucción tenía en primera instancia una enseñanza teórica y luego su respectiva práctica. Cada una de las prácticas o ejercicios significaban un esfuerzo físico y a veces, cuando los músculos parecían ya no responder, era la adrenalina y el apoyo mutuo el que ayudaba a reponerse y enfrentar los obstáculos.
Es importante mencionar que el curso, por sus características, ataca constantemente la fortaleza física y mental del estudiante para forjar su carácter, sin embargo, cabe la posibilidad de retirarse en el momento que uno lo desee, simplemente se debe tocar la campana del Patio de Honor tres veces y volver por donde se vino, solo. Afortunadamente los 17 resistimos, nos apoyamos y logramos aprobar el curso.
LOS EJERCICIOS
Rapel
Desde una torre que se eleva 30 metros desde el piso, hombres y mujeres sin distinción superaron el vértigo y con la ayuda de cuerdas descendieron de diferentes formas.
Salto de confianza
Saltar de un trampolín elevado a casi 10 metros sobre una piscina de 4 metros de profundidad, de pie, vestido con el equipo y con los ojos vendados suena difícil y más aún cuando no se sabe nadar… a pesar de ello, los 17 alumnos vencieron sus miedos y lo lograron contando los que no sabían nadar.
Rescate de heridos
Una de las constantes en el curso es la idea de que los alumnos deben “ponerse en situación”. La intención es simular un estado de emergencia constante, así en medio del monte, durante el fuego cruzado (salvas), granadas de humo, sirenas y gritos por doquier, cada una de las tres patrullas tuvo que rescatar a uno de sus miembros gravemente herido, improvisar una camilla y llevarlo a un lugar seguro después de haber atravesado una gran distancia y a lo largo de un jardín de obstáculos.
Operaciones ribereñas
El imponente río Ichilo fue el escenario para aprender a navegar en las veloces lanchas Piraña, que permitieron realizar simulacros de “hombre al agua” y su respectivo rescate. Asimismo, nos pusieron a prueba al inflar, cargar, lanzar y remar en los botes Zodiac, destacando lo complicado de intentar rescatar el bote de una situación de encallamiento en fango.
Supervivencia en la jungla
Dotados con sólo un machete y un poncho, los alumnos “fuimos dejados en el monte”. Aprendimos lo necesario para construir un refugio (con lo que se tenía) para pasar la noche en medio de la jungla, además evitar ser víctima de los insectos y los animales del lugar.
Asimismo técnicas para conseguir alimento a través de trampas, matar de manera efectiva (al animal) y cocinar con lo que la naturaleza y el entorno pueden ofrecer.
Navegación
Ir de un punto a otro parece fácil, sin embargo en lugares como la espesa jungla, la vegetación, ríos y la topografía del lugar hacen que avanzar sea complicado corriendo el riesgo de perderse. Afortunadamente, la tecnología del GPS se constituye en una herramienta que facilita la misión, esto siempre y cuando uno sepa cómo manejar el equipo. Largas caminatas de probaron la fortaleza de cada uno para poder avanzar entre la hostil vegetación.
Estas son algunas de las pruebas que formaron parte del curso, las mismas que en mayor o menor grado representaron un reto personal y de grupo.
La estricta disciplina y constante presión por parte de los instructores no logró romper la entereza de los alumnos que enfrentaron sus miedos, los superaron y se superaron a sí mismo.
El acto de egreso
Un acto sencillo pero emotivo fue el que puso fin al curso; los 17 alumnos recibieron un certificado de reconocimiento avalado por el Departamento de Estado de EEUU y la Policía Boliviana, además de una insignia como corresponsales antidroga.
“He visto rostros de sacrificio, lágrimas de nuestras compañeras y también impotencia, pero todos con el espíritu de culminar el curso. Llegamos 17 y ahora estamos saliendo 17”, expresó entre lágrimas Ramiro Romecín, en representación de todos.
Por su parte, el jefe de curso, capitán José Manuel Castro, ponderó el esfuerzo de los corresponsales y los resultados finales. “Queremos que los periodistas conozcan cuál es la actividad que realizamos y nos puedan colaborar en nuestras operaciones tanto en jungla como en serranías o zonas urbanas, de esta manera ellos no pongan en riesgo su vida ni la de nuestros elementos”, comentó.
Posteriormente los instructores del CEIAGAVA ofrecieron un copioso almuerzo para regocijo de los alumnos. Luego, con el “la barriga llena y el corazón contento” entregamos los uniformes y el equipo de dotación para volver a vestir de “civil”.
De nuevo en el bus, esta vez de retorno a la ciudad y nuestros respectivos distritos, muchos se quedaron en silencio, otros lograron dormir (por fin). Habían pasado 8 largos días y las imágenes de lo vivido durante todo ese tiempo invadían nuestras mentes; todavía no nos habíamos despedido pero ya se sentía la nostalgia.
Finalmente, al caer la noche llegamos a la ciudad. La promesa de un reencuentro, el abrazo sincero y un apretón de manos selló la amistad entre los nuevos corresponsales antidrogas.
